Thoughts About The EU

Commentators keep talking about the benefits of free trade and the negative effects of tariffs.

They talk about the loss to the UK in not having access to The EU markets if Brexit goes ahead.

There is a disconnect. The EU is essentially monopolistic and against free trade.

Barriers to trade within the EU are lowered under the umbrella of an agreement on standards of production. Trade with countries outside the EU is curtailed by tariffs, pending trade agreements.

The EU sustains itself by growing, by expanding by adding countries on its fringe.

That’s OK. It is protecting itself, just as any group might do.

The question for Britain is, why leave the club?
